Rani Mukerji hails from Bombay and was born on 21 st March 1978. Rani’s father Ram
Mukherjee was a director and mother Krishna was singer. She is also related to the Bollywood
actress Kajol from her paternal side. She debuted in the film ‘Biyer Phool’ and began working in
Hindi films with Raja ki Aayegi Baraat. Ghulam which released in 1998 was a turning point in her
life. She was widely acclaimed for her role in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hain’, where she portrayed the
role of Tina Malhotra, she received much appreciation for her role and critics referred to her as
an actor with an ‘oomph factor’.

In 2002, two high-profile films ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge’ and ‘Sathiya’ proved her versatility on
screen. She was rising on the ladder of success with the release of two other films – Yuva and
Hum Tum, she won the best actress in supporting role and best actress awards for the films in
the same year. She is married to filmmaker Aditya Chopra and took a four-year hiatus after the
birth of her child. To avoid saturation, Mukerji is known for oscillating between different kinds
of roles.
