Agha was a popular comedian of yesteryears. He was extremely likeable and was a favourite
amongst the filmgoers during the 30s and 40s. He replicated the Bob Hope’s style of acting and
has worked in more than 300 movies.

Agha was born in Pune. He was a man of “Good Humour and Smile”, he spent most of his time
in Pune. Agha went to school only for three days and never thought of going back, he couldn’t
stand the pattern more than that. Initially, he spent a lot of time around the Pune Race Course
as he desired to be a jockey. He became aware of his innate talent of acting, after he joined a
drama company in Bombay. His association began in 1933 when he joined Kanwal Movietown
as a production manager.

His first movie was Kanwal Moviestone’s Stree Dharma, followed by other films like Mazdoor,
Karwan-e-Husn, Rangila Mazdoor, Cicus Ki Sundari. He did more prominent roles in films like
Laheri Cameraman, Taxi Driver and Muqabla.

His son Jalal Agha also followed his father’s path and went on to become an actor. He is mostly
remembered for the iconic song, “Mehbooba Mehbooba” from the film Sholay.
