Amitabh – Rekha Duo

Amitabh Bachchan the angry young man of the 70s is still the favorite of the nation and Rekha is still the evergreen diva for many. The love affair between these two powerful personalities was once the talk of the town, back in late 70s every gossip column in newspapers and magazines were filled with the rumors of their intriguing relationship.

It all began on the sets of Do Anjane, at that time Amitabh was already married. They were trying to keep it a secret until one day Amitabh shouted on a co-star who was misbehaving with Rekha, it happened on the sets of Ganga Ki Saugandh. Rekha candidly accepted her love for Amitabh in many interviews but Amitabh never spoke about it. Rekha claimed that, “Amitabh did it to protect his family name and children.”

However, their love faded after they worked together in Silsila and also because Jaya Bachchan (Amitabh’s wife) took a strong position against the relationship. Rekha knew that the relationship had no future, she would never be able to marry Mr. Bachchan and slowly everything came to an
end. Some believe that the Rekha continues to put Sindoor on her forehead as a tribute to the relationship, the unrequited love never saw a hopeful ray.
