Nanda View Biography 145 Views
Nanda acted in Hindi and Marathi movies from 1940s to 80s. Born in a wealthy business family to Master Vinayak and Sushila, she began acting at the age of 5. Nanda always believed that her father cast her in the film Mandir, as she was their favorite child. She went on to become a child actor and then later took prominent roles in other movies. Shantaram Rajaram Vankure felt that Nanda can do adult roles after he witnessed her in a sari and gave her an opportunity to act in “Toofan Aur Diya”.
It led to a series of other films like Chhoti Behen and Bhabhi. She won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress award for Aanchal, which can be termed as a landmark movie of her career. During the shoot of Kala Bazaar, she was able to impress Dev Anand and became a very good friend of Waheeda Rehman. Dev Anand went on to cast her in his next movie “Hum Dono” – the movie was a box office success with songs that are still hummed by many people. This paved her way for many more lead roles. She continued taking up the lead roles in movies like Jab Jab Phool Khile, Gumnam and Ittefaq.
In March 2014, Nanda died of a heart attack.
