Bindu 145 Views
To be nominated as the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress for seven times in seven years, that too from her early films, is an achievement by itself.
Born April 17, 1941 at a small village near Valsad, Bindu lost her father when she was 13 and made her debut in films in 1962. She was one of the trio of dancers who dominated the Hindi film industry in the 70’s and 80’s,alongwith Helen and Aruna Irani. Her performance as a seductress in Imtihan and a nymphomaniac in Hawas had mesmerised the film goers. She was the cabaret dancer. She was also the vamp.
However, when she later switched to acting roles she earned rave reviews for portraying the character of a sympathetic person. In the 90s she turned herself in to the strict mother in law and the scheming aunt.
She remains one of the most vibrant artists who will always be remembered for the steamy cabaret dance, Mera Naam Shabnam.
