Nephew of Producer Director Story writer Nasir Hussain, Aamir Khan made his debut as a child star in his uncle’s film Yadon ki Barat and later went on to act in Lagaan which was made under his own Production house and not only was it a super popular film, it was also India’s entry to Oscar for the Best Foreign Film category.
Aamir is also a well respected social activist. He had conceptualized hosted Satyamev Jayate, wherein he had highlighted some social issues sensitive in nature. He himself has been in the centre of controversy about freedom of speech. He had also lent his support to the Narmada Bachao Andolon and some of his comments about the role of the Gujarat Government had met with outrage from the BJP.
Khan is perhaps the most popular Indian star in China and the Chinese Government have even awarded him with the National Treasure of India Award while the Indian Government have awarded him with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. Khan does not attend commercial award ceremonies as he says “Apart from the National Film Awards, I don’t see any other award ceremony that I should give value to. My personal experience about these award ceremonies is that I don’t trust them. I have no faith in them so I would prefer to stay away.”
