Soundarya, the Telegu, Kannada actress who also acted in lead roles in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam films had worked for only 11 years till she died in an air crash while campaigning for BJP on April 17, 2004.
In 2002, she won the National Award for the Best Feature Film as the producer of a Kannada film, Dweepa.
In the short span of 11years Soundarya dominated the film industry as an actress and as a producer. She gave a series of runaway hits and acted opposite all leading male actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Hassan, Mohanlal and others.Her last film in Kannada, Apthamitra won her the Filmfare Award for the Best Actress posthumously.
Described as a thorough actress of Indian cinema, Soundarya’s personality exceeded the boundaries of cinema. She was into social work and had started three schools for orphaned children in Bangalore.
