Born on April 25, 1918, Shahu Modak had a long career in Hindi and Marathi films, particularly playing the role of Lord Krishna in mythological films. He had a long active period, spanning over 5 decades. To honour Shahu Modak, Rangat Sangat Pratishthan, a cultural group have instituted the Manoos Award in his honour since 2001 and it is given away to an actor who has been associated with Shahu MOdak. It is interesting to note that the award is given away by the Police Commissioner since Modak played the role of a police officer in the film Manoos. Equally interesting is the fact that the person who played divinity in Hindu mythological films was born a Marathi Christian!
