Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri, known as Jagdeep in the film industry has done roles in more than 400 films. He is famous for his comic roles in various successful movies like Purana Mandir, Sholay, Andaz Apna Apna, and has ventured into direction with the film Soorma Bhopali, where he played the protagonist. It was not his passion for acting but circumstances made him work in movies. Jagdeep used to sell garments before he was spotted by a person from B R Chopra’s team to act.

Jagdeep began working in movies with the film Afsana, directed by B.R Chopra, followed by films such as Do Beegha Zameen, Hum Panchhi Ek Daal Ke, Brahmachari, Agent Vinod, Bhabhi, Khilona, Nagina, Pratigya. Andaaz Apna Apna and Kalyug Ke Avtaar. One would think about comic timing and spontaneity when speaking about Jagdeep, however he also played convincing roles in horror movies by Ramsay Brothers, in films like 3D Saamri and Purana Mandir, Jagdeep went on to explore his versatility as an actor.

Some of his famous songs are: tambakoo nahi hai, Mehroo Ki Rustam Se, Makhmal Ho Ya Taat Ka Parda, and  Pehle To Bhajia Pao Tha Mushkil. Jagdeep married twice – Sughra Begum and Nazima.

Famous Bollywood actor and director Javed and Naved Jafri are his sons, they were also the hosts of the famous dance show Boogie Woogie.
