Amrita Singh is a well-known Indian actress born on 9 Feb, 1958 in Hadali (Punjab). She is an alumni of Modern School, Delhi. She was one of the most beautiful, charming and desirable actresses of her time. At the time, when actresses were afraid of getting stereotyped as a vamp, she took up bold negative roles in her career. Interestingly, she appeared opposite Dharmendra and his son Sunny Deol. She began acting with her film ‘Betaab’ which was released in 1983, followed by box office hits such as Sunny, Khudgarz, Naam, Chameli Ki Shaadi. She maintained her poise and charisma against top-actors such as Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt, and Anil Kapoor.
Amrita played negative roles in movies such as Aaina and Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. For the former, she also received the Filmfare award for the Best Supporting Actress. She went on a sabbatical in 1993. She made a comeback with the movie ‘23rd March, 1931 Shaheed’ and she played Bhagat Singh’s mother’s role. Later, she appeared on television with the serial Kavyanjali in the year 2005. Followed by roles in movies like Kalyug, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Dus Kahaniya, etc.
She married Saif Ali Khan, son of eminent actress Sharmila Tagore and have two kids from the marriage. However, she got separated from Khan in 2004.
