The Bollywood industry, like good cinema, is always full of tales and stories. And they have a twist.
A young boy from his village is brought to Mumbai by Noor Muhammad Ali Muhammed Shipra, a film producer who also supplied horses for film shootings. The boy repairs horseshoes in a stable owned by Shipra. One day the boy approaches director Chandrasekhar and expresses his desire to work in films. The director is impressed and takes him under his wings.
He goes on to become a legend and his legacy still continues.
Mehboob Khan. Maker of Mother India, India’s first film to be nominated for Oscars in the Foreign Film Category. His studio, Mehboob Studios, still operates in Bandra, Mumbai.
Mehbbob Khan also made real block busters like Andaz, aan, Amar and the great musical hit Anmol Ghadi, which among others, included the immortal Awaz De Kahan Hai by Noorjehan.
He is also credited to have introduced Nargis in Taqdeer and even provided training to Nargis for Hindi and Urdu delivery. Additionally, he helped firm up the careers of Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Sunil Dutt, Raj Kumar and Nadira.
His last film was Son of India in 1962, which again presented us with two all time great numbers, Nanha Munna Rahi Hoon and Dil Todney Wale. He passed away at an early age of 54 in 1964.
