Madhubala is considered one of the most beautiful actresses of Indian cinema. Born as Mumtaz Jehan Begum, she belonged to a humble background but reached the zenith of success through her hard work and determination. She began acting from the age of eight. Her first lead role in Neel Kamal made her quite a household name. Subsequently, with films like Mahal she became an overnight star.

She went onto act in films like chalti Ka Naam Gadi, Mr. and Mrs.55, Mahal, Tarana, Barsaat Ki Raat, Hawda Bridge, Kala Pani, and many more. But the landmark movie of her career will always be ‘Mughal-e-Azam, which is still remembered for its dialogues and performances, one of the best movies of Dilip Kumar and Madhubala. It was this time, that a Hollywood director wanted her to work with him in Los Angeles but it was turned down by her father.

Her personal life was always in a kind of turmoil, as her romantic relationship with Dilip Kumar never reached any final point. After her break up, she found solace in the company of Kishore kumar and finally decided to marry him. They remained married for around 9 years till Madhubala passed away due to a heart ailment. In 2008, a postage stamp with her image was issued.
