Grandson of Padma Shri Motilal Kemmu, a Kashmiri playwright who won the Sahitya Academy Award in 1982, Kunal started as a child star in the popular TV programme, Gul Gulshan Gulfam in 1987 and did a number of films like Raja Hindustani, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Dushman. In 2005 he played the male lead in Mohit Suri’s Kalyug which was based on the pornography industry. For the next seven years he continued to appear in a number of films and then, in 2012 he took a break. He returned with the thriller Bhaag Johnny. He won critical acclaim for his role in Kalank and has appeared in Mohit Suri’s latest film Malang.

He is scheduled to play a lead role in a web series being directed by Ken Ghosh.
