When Feroz Khan passed away on April 27, 2009 at the age of 69 from cancer, he had established himself as an actor who never accepted failure but kept on moving ahead till he reached great heights.

Son of a Tanoli tribal from Afghanistan, he was born and educated in Bangalore and initially, after moving to Mumbai, starred in a number of B Grade films. He even appeared in an English language film where he was paired with Simi Grewal who was also making her debut in cinema. His first hit came in Oonche Log in 1965 and then he carried his success ahead in Arzoo and in 1969, he won the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Role in Aadmi aur Insaan.

In the seventies he had not only started sealing his name in the industry. He Turned Producer Director in 1971 with Apradh and then in 1976, he produced, directed and acted in Dharmatma, a remake of The Godfather. His films had grand production values, shot in foreign countries.

While Jaanbaaz, a huge box office success is considered by many to be his best work,  he will be remembered for had great success with Qurbani, which launched Nazia Hassan and Dayavan, the Hindi remake of Tamil Nayakan.

After a 11 year break in the nineties, Feroz Khan, known as The Clint Eastwood of India, returned to film making to launch his son Fardeen. Before he passed away in 2009, he had been black listed by Pakistan for declaring: I am a proud Indian. India is a secular country. The Muslims there are making a lot of progress unlike in Pakistan. Our President is a Muslim and our Prime Minister a Sikh. Pakistan was made in the name of Islam, but look how the Muslims are killing Muslims here.

He received the Filmfare Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2000.
