Satish Shah must be holding a world record for having played a different character in every episode of a popular TV sitcom in Doordarshan way back in 1984. Likewise he has acted in 50 episodes of Filmy Chakkar and, this is a big one, in 80 episodes of Ghar Jamai.
A product of FTII, Satish Shah who is a Kutchi Gujarati, has been and is, a very popular TV star though he has also acted in over 200 films, both Hindi and Marathi. Some of the better known films are Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan, Albert Pinto, Gaman, Umrao Jaan and of course Municipal Commissioner DeMello in laugh riot Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron.
Considered one of the finest comedy actors on Film and TV, Shah says he was an actor by accident. Starting with roles in school plays, he enrolled in FTII where he claims he never bunked a class. A topper in acting, Shah had the regulation initial years of struggle till Jaane Bhi do Yaaron happened. This was followed by a few art films, liow budget and then Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi and he never looked back.
He has also been a judge in Comedy Circus.
