Shakespeare Wallah

Lizzie is one of the actors of the theatre troupe that travels all over the country. They have seen better days with more Britishers in the country, after Indian independence, they hardly have any audience for their plays. Moreover, the newly independent crowd is not interested to watch things that are Britain related. At the same time, Lizzie has an ongoing affair with Sanju (Shashi Kapoor), but her parents Tony and Carla disapprove the boy. Manjula plays an Indian actress. The film is beautifully made with melodious score by Satyajit Ray. It is such a tribute to the courage of the Kendals, as the story is loosely based on their lives.
