Even when winning a beauty contest was not a marketing event as they are now, Poonam Dhillon, born on April 18, 1962, had won a national level contest, that too the Femina Miss India Contest. Her looks resulted in her first film from the Yash Raj Chopra stable, Trishul, (1978)which had her performing to an all time hit song, Gappuch Gappuchi Gam Gam,and later, she followed it up with her success in Noorie (1979).

Poonam Dhillon is more than just a film star with beauty and looks. Other than working in over 90 films, many of them huge hits pairing with Rajesh Khanna, she also turned to the stage and after a hugely successful The Perfect Husband, she is now working on The Perfect Wife!

Outside of show business she has her own business, that of pioneering make-up vans for film shoots and her company is appropriately called Vanity.

As late as 2013, she was pursuing her MBA in International Business.

She is involved with a number of social projects like AIDA, Drugs Awareness and saving the girl child.

A political activist, she is currently the Vice President of BJP’s Mumbai Unit.
