Spell it as Bajpayee or Bajpai, Manoj is one celebrity who goes home and returns to his earlier life, chatting with old friends, watching movies in the same theatres, visiting old joints. He is true to his salt. Yet, the Manoj who was born in a small village on April 23, 1969 is a Padma Shri, winner of two National Awards and four Filmfare awards.

His life story is in itself an inspiration. He moved to Delhi to learn acting1986 and was rejected four times by the National School of Drama. He made his film debut in Govind Nihlani’s Drohkaal which had a one minute role and then was assigned a short role in Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen. Kapur had noticed his acting ability and post Bandit Queen, where he played a short role of a dacoit, he returned big time as Bhiku Mhatra in RGV’s Satya with the famous dialogue, “Mumbai ka king kaun? Bhiku Mhatra”. Awards flowed in and so did roles in films like Kaun and Shool, but between 2002 and 2009, he went through period of struggle, but then he re exploded big time with Gangs Of Wasseypur, Rajneeti, Zubeidaa, Shoot out at Wadala and a host of films which have been very popular at the box office.

A “Method Actor” Manoj Bajpayee has created a niche for himself and yet stayed fixed to his roots.
